Meet Steph
Steph is a fully qualified Online Coach, L3 Personal Trainer and L4 Nutrition Coach (AfN certified and RSPH accredited) based in London.
Here is her story:
‘After getting into a competitive dance school at 18, I had to drop out due to an injury. It slightly threw me. Dance was all I’d ever considered when it came to a career and it was certainly the only exercise I’d ever done.
I took a year out, working bar shifts and in retail, to really get to the bottom of what I wanted to do.
I had a year of what I’m going to call ‘life experience’;
There was a lot of wild nights.
A lot of drinking.
And a lot of hard partying.
Lots of good times, and lots of bad times.
I look back at my 19 year old self now at the age of 34 and can see that I’d always lived life to the extremes. I was ALL IN, or not and fitness was just not on my mind. Period.
...after a year I found direction and after 3 years of university, graduated with a BSc 1st Class Honours degree.
Throughout uni, there were the usual antics.
I was working pretty much full time behind a bar (my university attendance was shocking...), and once again my physique, nutrition and mental health was pretty low on my priority list.
I started to gain weight.
I was probably the largest I’d ever been by 2nd year of uni – a good stone and a half up from where I naturally sit.
Late nights.
No exercise.
Bar shifts.
Alcohol etc.
Post graduation I landed a job as a Junior Project Manager in London and decided to move back home.
It was here that I had a quiet moment to reflect and think about how I was feeling.
The truth is not great.
It wasn’t until 24 that I started to take my health seriously.
As ever, Steph with her extremes, I decided flat out that I needed to ‘eat clean’.
As little processed foods as possible.
Sounds good right? Wrong.
I’d eat a whole avocado and not know that was 300 calories.
Or cover my oats with nuts and wonder why I wasn’t trimming down because I was being ‘healthy’.
It was disheartening.
I was still ‘soft’ and to be honest I couldn’t really change my shape.
Left to my own devices, I learnt about calories and casually slipped into an overeating at the weekend and severely restricting and trying to balance everything out the week.
Another extreme.
My body was very stressed, and deeply unhappy. I lost my menstrual cycle for a few months. It came back, but that was a bit of a wake up call.
I was so lost.
Nothing worked.
I was never happy with my body until I realised something had to change.
It was affecting my mental health.
It was affecting my social life.
It had even started trickling into my relationship.
Something had to change.
I invested in an online coach, and it was the best thing I’ve ever done.
I healed my relationship with food and overexercising.
I learnt how to actually change my body through change training and the importance of building strength.
I leant to listen to my body, track my cycle, priories sleep, and stay hydrated.
I learnt how to find balance.
…it was at this point I realised that this was what I wanted to do myself.
I studied to become a personal trainer, I then trained as a Nutrition Coach and the rest is history, I can honestly say I’ve found my calling.
I love coaching. I love working with people. I love helping them reach their goals and giving them the knowledge of how to do so.
